217 ~ Funatama Inari Jinja
Japanese Name: 船玉稲荷神社
Romanized Reading: Funatama Inari Jinja
English Translation: Ship Jewel Inari Shrine
Size: Medium
Deity: Inari
Fox Count: 4
First Visit: 11-Sep-2018
Location: Matsue
Address: 5 Chome-59 Higashihonmachi, Matsue-shi, Shimane-ken 690-0842
Coordinates: 35.4698927,133.0611926A fox shrine not far from the shore of the relatively short Oohashigawa (大橋川 "Big Bridge River"), which connects the two lakes between which Matsue is located. Though Komainu guard the exterior of the shrine, there's still a quartet of tiny porcelain foxes hiding deep inside. This is unusual, because usually a Shrine features either Komainu as its guardians or foxes, but rarely both.
